Gold ring, bracelet and rope chain with a ruler and tape measure for finding your size

How to Find Your Size: Rings, Bracelets & Chains

Getting the right size the first time is easy. This guide walks you through rings, bracelets and chains step by step. No special tools needed, just paper, a pen and a ruler.

Ring size

Cutting a thin strip of paper to measure ring size
STEP 1Cut a strip of paper about 6 in (15 cm) long and ¼ in (6 mm) wide.
Paper strip wrapped around the base of the ring finger
STEP 2Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you'll wear the ring on.
Marking where the paper strip overlaps with a pen
STEP 3Mark the spot where the paper overlaps with a pen.
Measuring the paper strip on a ruler in millimeters
STEP 4Unroll it, lay it on a ruler and measure from the end to your mark in millimeters.

Paper works better than string because it doesn't stretch. Then find your measurement in the chart below.

Bracelet size

Tape measure around the wrist next to the wrist bone
Measure right next to the wrist bone, on the hand side, where the bracelet will sit.
  1. Wrap a strip of paper (or a soft tape measure) around your wrist, right next to the wrist bone on the hand side.
  2. Mark where it overlaps, lay it flat and measure in inches.
  3. Add room for how you like it to fit (see below).

How to measure

Using a string around the neck to find chain length
Option A: hang a string to where you want the chain, pinch it, then measure it straight.
Gold rope chain laid straight next to a tape measure
Option B: lay a chain you own flat and measure end to end, clasp included.

Adding a pendant? It hangs below the chain, so factor that in. And on every chain listing, the last photo shows the chain worn in each available length.
